"Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee. Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands and let them move, at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet and let them be, swift and beautiful for Thee."

Frances Ridley Havengral

I remember a few years ago a series of books that were written by Rick Warren and Doug Fields. They were all entitled Purpose Driven... First, there was the Purpose Driven Church, followed but the Purpose Driven Student Ministry and finally, the Purpose Driven Life. It was amazing because every church leader I knew was using these books and trying to recreate the same model at their church. The whole preface for each of these books was the fact that God has a divine purpose for our churches, ministries, and our lives. The goal was for everyone to try and find a way to determine their purpose and move together in one accord to successful fulfill the purpose that we were called to be a part of in our lives. It was truly amazing to watch as everyone was trying their best to find their PURPOSE in life.

Thinking about those books, helps me to step into the moment that we are talking about today. My first question is have you ever thought about what your purpose is today? Are we still trying to live into the same purpose based on the fact that everything has changed, or are we trying to regroup and change our purpose to fit the new normal or our current situation? All of these things continue to blow my mind, but in reality I find myself using a phrase that defines this exact moment. The phrase is a life for a life. This phrase digs into our current situation and forces us to ask the question, "Are we going to stay in the same life that we are living or are we truly going to adjust to the change?" Are we willing to look and think outside the box as it relates to the opportunities we have to really influence the people that we come into contact, virtually or physically, on a daily basis. Are we willing to give our lives to help walk with those who are in need of direction and help in discernment for the next steps of their journey?

One word comes to mind here....sacrifice. In order to live into the idea of a life for a life, we have to realize that we have to die to self in order that we can gain life. We have to begin to stop thinking about our personal needs and look at the opportunity we have to truly impact and change the world from the inside out. Yes, from the inside out, and that starts with our families. Many times we feel as though we are not truly equipped to do what God has called us to do, and I want to say what my mom and dad said to me all the time, "With that attitude you are NEVER going to be ready to change the world." So I have to go back and think

about that phrase "die to self". I have to be willing to think in a new way on how my life can be used during this time of uncertainty to impact the world. Trust me it is not going to be easy. We are fighting an uphill battle, but the first true battle we are fighting is with ourselves. Yes, life has changed as we know it. Yes, we have lost opportunities that we have been waiting for all of our lives. And Yes, I really wish that I could give ALL us back the time that we have lost, but in reality that is not going to change where we are. We have to be willing to say God, help me to see things the way you are revealing them and help me to see the bigger picture as it relates to family. We are traveling through this time together and now we have to once again rise up and overcome so that the world will be able to see the power of God that is working through each and every one of us. It is so important that we all take hold of this concept. To let go of the things of the past and the things that we cannot change that continue to cause us to be hurt, carry anger, frustration and hopelessness, and take up the life that shows us that we are not going to be left here forever. We have a hope that draws us all closer together and strengthens our walk as we take a step, hand in hand, holding each other up every step of the way.

Hear the words of the song again today, "Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to Thee. Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands and let them move, at the impulse of thy love. Take my feet and let them be, swift and beautiful for Thee." Take it God and help me to let go and see that you have a bigger plan. Let every part of my life exude the Gospel story and show the world that we may stumble and fall, but that will never truly hold us down. Take EVERY part of my life in order that the world may see a pure reflection of more of YOU and less of me. It's tough.. it really is tough and it is not going to happen over night. But if we are willing to let go of a little bit of our lives each take and take on more of the life that God has in store for us, we will be amazed at what FAMILY and LIFE will look like on the other side of this time of uncertainty. Here am I, ALL of me, Take my life... It's ALL for THEE!!
