10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0... Did anything change? I have now done these countdown for over 40 plus years and I just wanted to know if ANYTHING has changed for ANYBODY once the clock strikes midnight? You know that when I was younger I really did believe that there was this magic that would occur because my parents would never let me stay up and watch what was going on. I remember just listening in my room to the background noise and waking up and it was a new year. Hard to believe that we have really been able to take another trip around the sun and I have to say that A LOT has changed for this year. We were able to experience things that have never happened in our lifetime but will not be surprised to be apart of telling the historical reference of what happened in 2020. We continue to fight for change without realizing that the only way that things change is ONE person at a time. It is a battle for a new ME. I cannot expect the rest of the world to change for the better if I am unwilling to start with myself. So I go back to my original question, when the clock struck midnight, did ANYTHING change except the date on the calendar.

I have been talking so much over the last few weeks about the ability for us to truly find freedom we have to resolve the issues that have been holding on to us and stunting our spiritual growth. Each of us has to be willing to step back and let God step in. I know that is crazy because most of us have been raised to take care of our own problems and that is actually where the problem lies. We cannot take care of these problems. These things that continue to entangle and choke us can only be released through the power of God. We have found so many days that cause us to question if we are going to make the next day, and I can tell you that it is only by the grace of God that ANY of us makes it to the next day. My

hope and my prayer is that we ALL finally begin to realize that it is ONLY through Christ that we can truly be set free. But are we really prepared for the battle that is already taking place. Have we prepared our hearts, minds, souls to endure the attacks that come at us from every angle. Have we truly prepared ourselves for the battle of a lifetime because that is exactly what we are in right now. The reason that the world is in such demise right now is because the people of God have given up the fight to overcome evil. Many have truly just thrown up their hands and said this, "If you can't beat them...join them" or "if they are going to get theirs, then I am going to get mine." We just throw in the towel because we are so tired of the constant fight we endure for the sake of the Cross.

Today, we begin a new journey for the new year. We are going to take two weeks to really begin preparing ourselves to step into life in a new way. We are going to truly realize that we are battling for our eternal destiny and we cannot just give up and given in. Jeremiah wrote the Book of Lamentations as a way to recognize the suffering that the both the people of God and God were experiencing after the destruction of Jerusalem and the captivity of His people. Lamentations were written as a way to take hold of the afflictions the had occurred to the people of God, but also provide a way to prepare to reset their minds for the things that were to come. The exiled people of Judah had continually disobeyed God and were now reaping the fruits or their disobedience. But once again God shows that in the middle of this affliction, God's people can still find HOPE. Read the scripture verses again,"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Even in the midst of being completely split apart, God was still providing HOPE for His people through the words of Jeremiah. They were able to see each morning with a renewed spirit that would encourage and challenge them to seek God with all of their heart.

We, too, can wake up each morning with this same passion and yearning to see God revealed. I just hope and pray that we will finally recognize that the only way to truly find this peace each morning is to give the battle for ME over to God. The battles that we wake up with every day can be turned into an opportunity for the Lord to once again provide opportunities for growth and wisdom. Hope will continue to show its amazing face, every day that the sun rises and sets. God provides for us a tapestry that is brilliant with colors and

provides us HOPE out of the chaos. It just begins with a little GOD every day. So I hope and pray that you are ready to start this new journey with me at the beginning fo 2021. I pray that we take all of the struggles and life lessons and really apply them to our lives to see that God has really be providing a way to grow us all along. When all the years finally pass by, I hope and pray that we are able to stand firm on the promises of God. I pray that in our lamenting and sadness, we are able to really see the JOY that God is providing with each new day. Remember we are not alone and we are truly seeking ways to reach out to the world and show them that once again the battle for ME belongs to the Lord. It is no coincidence the things that happen in our lives, they are all chapters of a book that God is reading and writing about us. The only part that is still unwritten is the end. From the beginning until the last moments, the battle will continue to be waged, but once we finally make that decision, our eternity will be defined forever. May we take these moments to battle for the new me that is renewed through the blood of Christ.
