Everything The Light Touches

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9

When I was growing up, one of my favorite movies was the Lion King. I remember that there was a part when Simba and Nala had gone to the Elephant Graveyard against his father, Mufasa's advice. After they had been saved from the hyenas, Mufasa pulls Simba aside for a fatherly moment. Mufasa says, "Simba, I want you to see... everything the LIGHT touches is our kingdom." I will have to admit that my brain took this and went on overdrive. Not that I am saying today that I tried to fit something that was not supposed to fit, but in the reality where we are today, I need us all to understand the importance of the impact of the LIGHT.

See as we continue to walk through these dark days of confusion and uncertainty, please remember that we ALWAYS have a LIGHT that will continue to shine through the darkness. Some days it may mean that WE have to allow our LIGHT to shine because of what God has and is continuing to do through us. See the difficult thing is that sometimes when we surround ourselves with darkness from our attitudes, circumstances, decisions, or realities, we fail to realize the power of the darkness that will continue to consume us and make us hollow inside. OK another movie reference. If you have ever seen the Never-ending Story, remember that the one thing that was completely destroying their world was the Nothingness. It was a feeling that nothing was going to change and nothing really mattered. People began to lose their faith in EVERYTHING and they were being consumed and hallowed out. See that is the same thing that can happen to us if we continue to cover the LIGHT with the darkness that is in our lives.

Today is the realization that we are ALL SINNERS.. We all have this darkness that lives in us and at times controls our lives and causes us to really step back and think that we are not good enough or worthy enough and don't deserve the forgiveness or the grace that we are offered through Christ. We are like Simba who really wanted to see for himself the mystery of the darkness represented by the Elephant Graveyard and see if he could handle the

situation. See that is where we fail. We believe that WE can HANDLE the SITUATION. Sin is not a situation. Sin is a part of our lives that continues to drive us to nothingness. It continues to cause us to separate our connection with God. Remember EVERYTHING THE LIGHT TOUCHES IS GOD'S KINGDOM. And in case you may have missed this... THAT INCLUDES YOU, ME and EVERYONE in the world that professes Jesus Christ as Lord and King. We can not live a life allowing our sins to exist and expect the LIGHT to shine through us. It is a day of confession and realization that the LIGHT needs to PIERCE our DARKNESS.

So today, please take a moment and realize the truth of the story. We are ALL SINNERS... We ALL fall SHORT of the Glory of God... We ALL deserve DEATH... but LIGHT came into the world to show us a way out of the DARKNESS. If that doesn't stop you in your tracks today, think of this powerful statement. What was the VERY FIRST THING GOD SAID? What was the VERY FIRST words that we have recorded that were spoken from the LIPS of GOD? If you cannot answer that question it is ok.. I will help you. Genesis 1:3 "And God said, Let there be LIGHT, and there was LIGHT." There was not mixing of words. In the darkness... in the chaos... in the nothingness of the world before Creation, God spoke and claimed HIS RULE for ALL CREATION. God said LET THERE BE LIGHT and at 186,282 miles per hour LIGHT came out of God's mouth and took dominion over ALL CREATION.

Now as carriers of the LIGHT, we have a very important job to do. I need you to understand that we first must get ourselves right with God in the sin category. But, we must also realize that we are now the carriers of the LIGHT. If the LIGHT has touched you... you now have a responsibility to pass the LIGHT on. You have a calling to tell others the GOSPEL story so that the darkness in this world will continue to become smaller and smaller and smaller until it no longer exists and God once again claims victory over a fallen world. See

that's going to happen and it's coming. We don't know when but as believers we know that the LIGHT wins over the darkness in the end and we have been called, as those touched by the LIGHT, to PASS IT ON. One of my favorite hymns growing up was Pass it On. It can still be found in the Cokesbury Hymnal, and these are the words I will leave with you today. "It only takes a spark, to get a fire going. And soon all those around will warm up to its' glowing. That's how it is with God's love, once you've experienced it. You share his love with everyone YOU WANT TO PASS IT ON. A spark to a flame to an uncontrollable fire... NO ONE CAN STOP THE LIGHT OF GOD.
