GOD IS ALREADY IN OUR MINDS
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. Romans 8:26-27
How much do you struggle trying to put words to the emotions or feelings that you have going on in your life? How much do you tend to try to figure out what is actually going on and what seems like an illusion or a lie? In our lives, we must continue to realize the value of God being in our lives. I know that for many of us we still cannot fully fathom that relationship. I know that for many of us we struggle to see what is only seen by faith. I know that we feel hurt and pain and struggle to make sense out of a senseless society. We continue to want to find ways for the world to fit into our mold and continue to feel frustrated because it feels more and more like everything is out of control. When we don't have the words to say or we sit back and watch feeling hopeless or useless, remember God is right there with you and is ready to give peace to the madness.
In my life, I have been fortunate to really spend time just listening to God. I know that there are times when I am so frustrated or exhausted that I just want to stop and say ok I have had enough for today. But that is the moment that God is ready to speak. See when I am at my fullest capacity, most of the time I fail to stop and listen. When I am fully rested, my mind begins writing my schedule for the day and the checklists continue to grow longer and
longer. I find ways to keep myself and my mind busy and sometimes push out the voice that has been trying to speak to me all day. The voice that is inside my head that I tend to listen to in times of strife and situations that are out of control. The voice that is calming and consistent. The voice that has been there all along but I have been to loud in my thoughts to stop and listen. God is already in tune with every situation, so when I come to spend time in prayer, God already knows everything and we can really spend time in conversation than continuing to make lists.
I know that may be a hard concept for all of us to truly tackle today. But understand the fullness of Paul's teaching today. As we have learned this week, change can only occur when we stop looking at ourselves and start looking to God. We will never hear the voice crying out in the wilderness if we are too busy talking to ourselves and saying that we cannot make a difference. If we would just stop and listen to the still small voice that continues to push us and gives us a sense of peace. If we would just slow down for a moment and clear out all of the junk that we stack and horde in our minds. What a true difference that would make in the world. Listen again to Paul's words, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God." Paul is referring to the hope that we are all searching for to make sense of this world. The change that will occur through the blessing that God is ready to pour out on this world, but only if the world is ready to accept it, stand up and proclaim that God is Lord of ALL.
See when we come into the weakest moments of our lives and let down our guard, we are really able to hear and see God more clearly. Not because God has not been there, but because we have created barriers to push out His voice. The Spirit continues to walk with us and help us discern decisions through every situation. Once again, that still small voice is the Holy Spirit of God that continues to nudge us to follow the plans that God has laid out for us. Remember Jeremiah when he said,"for I know the plans I have laid out for you. The plans to prosper you and not to harm you, the plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11. Recognize that these were the words that God was speaking to the people of God as they were scattered all of the world and He was ready to call them back home. Realize that God was in their story and God was walking with EACH of them daily. Yesterday I watched a
conversation between multiple pastors and I came to realize that maybe the real problem for the Church today is our unwillingness to truly listen. Maybe we have been so set in our ways that we fail to hear the voice of God calling us to be the Church God created us to be from the beginning. Remember, when the first Church formed in Acts 2 again, and they sold everything they had and met together daily, broke bread and helped each other with their needs. Have we been so deaf not to hear and realize our call? Only time will truly tell, but as I stated earlier, God is still with us. His voice is still like one calling out from the wilderness waiting for us to listen and follow. He has searched our hearts... He knows our desires... now maybe it's time to listen to His voice and Follow the Leader.
