It's Friday...but SONDAY's Coming!!
20 I have been crucified with Christand I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,who loved meand gave himself for me.21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law,Christ died for nothing!”Galatians 2:20-21
I have been watching a video almost EVERY Good Friday since it came out. Igniter media did a video, which will be at the bottom of the blog today, entitled It's Friday, but Sunday's Coming. It is in response to the world not realizing that what happened on Good Friday was such a tragedy, but had to happen in order for Jesus to fulfill His true purpose on the earth. In the midst of walking through Holy Week, we have reached a day that was dark for the church and the world. It was a time that at the time no one knew or understood what was going to happen a few short days, hours later. It was a time when the evil in the world had thought that they had overcome the Creator of the world, but in reality they had set the table for the GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD to be revealed to the world. It blow my mind how much went on in such a short amount of time, but I want us to think about this in a different way today... Maybe we are still living in the FRIDAY moments without truly moving on to realize the freedom that comes on Sunday!
I know that might be tough to grasp today. I know that sometimes my brain works in a totally different way than someone else's brain and I don't know if that is a blessing or a curse. But I want you to think about Friday in a different concept. What if FRIDAY was the representation of all of the moments in your life that you found yourself completely separated from God. What if FRIDAY was the representation of the hurt, the destruction, the separation that we feel every time that we continue to hold sin in our lives and watch as it completely tears us down to our CORE. What if the FRIDAYS are the days that represent the days that we feel as though we really don't need God's help on this one. We feel as though we can handle the situation and we never allow God into the moment. What if FRIDAY represented all of the moments that evil entered into our minds and caused us to curse God under our breath and question God on why certain things had to happen that way. What if FRIDAY represented the opportunities that we NEVER take to share the Gospel because the little voice in our heads tells us that we don't have the right or the authority or the strength to tell others about Jesus. See if we look at FRIDAY in that contextual setting, then that makes FRIDAY more than just a day. It take the Thank GOD it's FRIDAY phrase to a completely different level and causes us to have to truly recognize that grip that the world still has on Good Friday. Because it is not technically a day on the calendar but a response to the loss of hope and connection to a SAVIOR that was beaten and crucified for the world.
But Sunday's COMING. See on the flip side of all of this is the realization that we already know the end of the story. We already know that Jesus comes up out of the grave and has victory over sin and death. BUT do we live in such a way that the FRIDAYS we continue to live out, we allow the SONDAY to truly take back the authority over our lives. All of the WHAT IFS get answered with the TRUTH and POWER of a RISEN SAVIOR. And if memory serves me correct, I think scripture tells us that the TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE.
When SONDAY is coming, we realize the fact that Jesus has already walked in our shoes.. Jesus has already overcome the death, sin and evil of the world that we continue to deal with on our FRIDAY moments. Jesus has already offered the solution by walking the journey to the cross and enduring its shame... its hurt... its power in order that we can have life and have it MORE ABUNDANTLY. It is truly the concept that in the midst of all our failure s and the darkest moments in our lives, Sunday... or SONDAY is coming. The ONE who is ready to claim victory in ALL situations is ready to walk with us during COVID-19 and on the other side of this, we are going to see a potential for REVIVAL that the world has never seen. That is the whole point of SONDAY. It is the day that the SON of God got up out of the grace and said look... regardless of your situation... regardless of your choices... regardless of the grip the world holds on you.. I have come that you may have LIFE.
Paul reminds us of that today in our scripture. See we have been crucified with Christ. As Christians we are no longer our own. The love, grace and mercy of the SON lives and breathes in us. We have a story to tell in order that those who only see this as a normal Friday, will be able to let go of the chains that has taken over their lives and experience freedom in a brand new way. If people today think that if they just live a good life the they are going to get into heaven.. they will NEVER move out of a FRIDAY mentality. They will NEVER have the chance to experience the overcoming of the GRAVE and DEATH by Christ. It will be mealiness. It will not allow us any opportunity to truly experience the freedom that God came to give the world through the life of Christ.
So when I think about this day... it represents all of the days in my life where I fall short of the Glory of God. It reminds me of all of the times I CHOSE not to allow God to be apart of the decisions, a part of the struggle, a part of the victories, and a part of the uncertainty. It is the times when I allowed FRIDAY to separate me from fully diving into the love of a SAVIOR who endured the worst of the world and stretched out his arms to show us just how big the love
of God truly is. May we never forget that on our life journeys we will continue to have those moments to where we think we can handle it all on our own. Moments in which we do not allow GOD to join in on the decisions and days to where we feel completely alone.. Those are FRIDAYS... We must remember that we serve a God who wants to be a part of our story. A God that loves us so much that he was willing to give ALL that he could give to show us the importance of trusting even when we cannot see. Any of us may be living in a FRIDAY moment... but please NEVER forget that SONDAY is COMING!
