IT'S FRIDAY.... BUT SUNDAY'S COMING
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15
36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
And so one of the first prophecies of God will be revealed today. In a whirlwind of chaos, Jesus is eating His last meal that will lead Him to the cross. I just need to let you know that I get so excited for this time of year in the church. I always listen to the video you are going to see. I know that I probably used it last year, but what an even MORE amazing time to be in the church the first Easter back... to know that Sunday's Coming and we have been waiting for it over an entire year. That jut blows my mind. I mean I know that Jesus knew what was about to happen and really brought in the whole fulfillment of the prophesy of God that was made in the Garden when sin first entered into the world. And at they very moment God knew what needed to happen, and it was no surprise that God stepped in and had to do it Himself. I just think about the state of the world at that time and I look at the state of the world now. There was so much uncertainty then... and there continues to be much uncertainty now. Over the last year we have been craving a gathering for Easter to truly worship a risen King, but the King of kings put the ball pack in our courts to get our house in order so that we would have a better understanding of the truth of Easter.
We are about to once again see Easter with new eyes. We are about to step in with childlike faith in hopes of returning to a powerful foundational experience that will allows us to once again feel safe and normal. For many of us, we have been living like the disciples that scattered and questioned what do we do now. We have been allowing this pandemic to cause us to question who is in control and what can we honestly do. We have been crying
out to God and the world for answers and now, just like after the impact that was felt around the country on 9/11/01... people have a craving and a desire to come back to church and see God again for the first time through the lens of Christ. We have to be ready. We have to take a moment and recognize the powerful statement that this Easter will bring. It is not just any Easter... This is the Easter that could spark the revival of the world. This is the opportunity that we all have to say SUNDAY's COMING!!! We know the stress and the struggle that we have all faced and we are ready to breathe all of that out and breathe all of God back into our life. Churches do not need to be afraid of speaking the TRUTH, because TRUTH is EXACTLY what we need. Yes, we are in a similar state as the time of Jesus dying on the cross. We are in need of the promise being fulfilled that shows God's great plan for the redemption of ALL creation.
We are able to step into multiple Gardens today. From the Garden of Eden to the Garden of Gethsemane, we are watching as God's Words are being fulfilled right before our eyes. From the time sin entered into the world with Adam and Eve, creation had been waiting for a solution that ws going to lift the curse of death and destruction. When God says that there will be unity or separation between the over spring of satan and the offspring of God, we are able to see that there truly will be a division of people who have given their life to God and others who have chosen to turn away. There will be a striking of the heal as seen in Genesis and that to me is the crucifixion foretold. But recognize that the heal is only struck but the head, satan, will be crushed or defeated when Jesus rises from the grave three days later. It is all a foretelling of the Gospel and comes to a head in Garden of Gethsemane when confronted by the opportunity to walk away, Jesus utters the words, “Everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” Jesus is surrendering to the authority of God and recognizing what God can do at any moment, but knows that the decision that is made on Friday will impact people for eternity. It is the darkest day of the Christian year, but the good thing is that we already know the next steps of the story. Friday had to happen to fulfill God's promise of grace, but that does not mean that we have to live in Good Friday all the rest of the year. NO.. We step out and recognize the opportunity that we have to testify to EVERY DAY BEING EASTER.
Please take a moment today and really take in the steps that Jesus walked from the Table to the Grave. Take the time to recognize where we are in that story. Are we one of the disciples whose feet have been anointed to go and carry the Gospel to the world. Are we like the one who betrayed Jesus for something that in the long run never would fulfill our hearts and desire? Are we like the one who is willing to fight for the cause but when called upon we
deny it and run away in disgrace? Are we the one that has the life of Jesus in our hands and
just don't want to deal with it and washes our hands of the situation because we are afraid of the outcome? Are we the one that beats Jesus to an inch of His life and parades Him around like He does not matter? Are we the one that one day cries Hosannah and the next day we cry Crucify Him? Are we the ones that drive the nails in His hands and feet? Are we the ones that battle on eBay for His clothes to save so that we can sell them one day for profit? Are we the ones that mock Him and say if you are the true Son of God, come down and prove it? Are we the ones that stand their weeping and crying because we know there is nothing we can do but watch the horror unfold? Are we the ones that proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives and profess, like the centurion, this truly was the Son of God because of the power of His story? And to all of these questions I personally answer YES. Yes I have played each of these roles in one way or another throughout my life. Yes, I have denied, I have stood proudly, I have spoken out of both sides of my mouth. I have weeped, I have carried my cross, I have stood at the feet of Christ and professed that He is my Lord and Savior. And moving forward each moment, I realize just how much more powerful the Easter story is in my life as it is revealed to the world EVERY DAY! It's FRIDAY... BUT SUNDAY IS COMING!! And Sunday will continue to come, every day, as long as we continue to Go and Tell the Story. Father, Here I am, What can I do for You for ETERNITY? AMEN.
