MORE THAN WATCHMAN WAIT FOR THE MORNING

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

2 Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. 5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. 7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins. Psalm 130

Hope is still the foundation of every day that we wake up and rely on the Lord in humble anticipation. In the days when God's people were waiting, preparation and rebuilding, there were men that were called watchman that stood on the wall while the temple was being rebuilt to protect both day and night. They would honestly wait all night long to be called into service. They were the ones that through the night that were protecting the people of God as they were taking the next step of their journey and it was not an easy job. In the early stages of the journey there was a lot of threats that they had to prepare for and they would train themselves to recognize those threats in the darkness of the night. In the same way, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to be a watchman to wait, protect and to rescue those that were and are in need. Today, the same protection is available to us today. The watchman would wait and wait until the sun rose and the Light was able to show what surrounded the temple. Then when everything was safe, they would switch out their shifts and the next watchman would take their shift ready to go to battle and surrender their lives for the protection of those they were defending.

I say that because I want us to realize that we too have a watchman. One that is standing at the wall who was willing to give us His life for the hope of taking the next step in our faith journey. It was not something that was easy. Jesus who was fully God and fully human, in His divine nature, came to this world to show us an example of walking in the faith and wanting to help us see that we were not alone. Jesus came in order that we would see the HOPE in all of its' fullness. It was not a whim in which God sent Jesus, it was the HOPE that we have a watchman that gave HIS life to protect our lives from the destruction of sin. I know that sounds crazy but that is the role that Jesus played for the world then and the role that Jesus

still plays today. As long as God has not sent Jesus back to reclaim His creation, there is a hope that we have the ability to shine the LIGHT into the darkness. It means that we still have work to do and a HOPE to pour out to all of the people. It is not going to be easy if we are not already use to expressing and explaining the story of the Gospel to others, but we need to step into the fact that we hold a HOPE that the world is in desperate need of hearing. We who have this hope have now stepped into the role of watchman and our job is not over until the morning comes and the LIGHT shines and exposes the sins that the darkness holds.

The Psalmist helps us to see the power of HOPE that was revealed to thee world through Jesus. Even though at the time the Psalmist did not know that Jesus existed, they knew that God was a God of Hope. That from the fall of the world in Genesis when sin entered into the world, that God was not going to give up on His Creation. God provided a HOPE that would relieve God's Creation from the penalty of death through the power fo the life of Jesus. We all carry baggage with us throughout our lives, and there are many times that we cry out to God to help us from the depths of our souls. Not just a surface cry, but a cry that is gut wrenching and one like a child goes from our mouth directly to the ears of God. God could easily point to us and say you need to receive what you deserve and we would have no way to defend ourselves, but God gave us Hope through the life of Jesus. God said I am not going to leave you in your current situation but I am going to meet you where you are and walk with you so that you can draw strength from me in those times of struggle. We have been given forgiveness to go and serve and help others to experience the same hope that we have had revealed in our lives. There are so many others in desperate need of this grace and HOPE and we are the watchman that need to carry them out of the darkness and give them the protection they need to work out their journey with God.

So on this day, our Advent journey leads us even deeper into the HOPE that we were given when the LIGHT came into the world. That the WORD that became flesh offers us an ability to seek forgiveness and now we have been given the call to protect others that are being attacked by the evils of the darkness. Notice that the Psalmist repeated the phrase, "I wait for the Lord MORE than watchman wait for the morning, MORE than watchman wait for the morning. That is not a mistake. There is a reason that the words were reemphasized and the

reason is because we have been called to do the same. We are called to go beyond the normal hours that we serve. We are not on a clock for God, but at ANY moment we are called into action to provide the WORD of HOPE to those that are being attacked by evil. Now the evil is trying to infiltrate the light, but the light CANNOT be overcome by the darkness, and we have to carry that message of HOPE to a world that even when the sun shines battles the demons of the dark to their core. We are the carriers of HOPE.... WE have been given this message that needs to be professed to the world and all I am asking is ARE YOU READY TO TAKE YOUR TURN AT THE WALL? Are we ready to step out of our comfort zones and realize that the only way the world is going to get better is if we, the watchman of today, are willing to go beyond just the minimum we can give. We have to take our turn to deliver the message of HOPE to the world. Watchman Needed Apply TODAY! God is waiting and ready for ANYONE is ready to apply for the job to carry HOPE into the world.
