My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul. 2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 3 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth. Psalm 108:1-5

Music seems to be a common language that can cross so many different boundaries. Even though we may not be able to fully understand what may be said through different languages, we are able to connect through music. It really blows my mind. Music seems to be a common thread that can connect people from all over the world. I don't think that is a coincidence, but it is a way that God has gifted us to share his presence in our lives. I think that I was singing and listening to music before I could even walk or talk. Music tends to be a way that we can communicate our passions and our feelings that we would not normally be able to through spoken words. We find ways to allow music to attach to our lives in certain situations and through the power of music we are reminded of both good times and bad as soon as the music begins to play. In an instant, music can draw our hearts and minds back to a specific place in time that our lives were impacted. For example, every time that I hear Phil Collins In the Air Tonight, I am reminded of my senior year of football getting ready to play Effingham County for the region championship. I know that is very specific, but it really did create a connection in my life that I will never forget.

There is an amazing connection between God and music. I firmly believe that some fo the greatest ways God speaks to us is through melodies and songs. The poems and the words that we place to music help to tell our story and I am truly amazed at listening to the journeys of so many people as they pour out their lives for the world to see. Music allows us to find joy and to find strength in the times that words cannot be spoken. I just want you to think for a second, when you are sad, what music do you listen to? When you need to be

pumped up, do you already have certain songs or a playlist that you have developed that helps to pump you up. I know that athletes have certain playlists that they have developed that walks them through different stages of mental preparation for the task at hand. For me, I find music helps me to center my thoughts and while I am reading scripture it can allow me to dig even deeper. So do I fully believe that music has the power to do help us in our spiritual walk... yes I do.

David is once again writing to us today to show how he is glorifying God. In the midst of his uncertainty, David is lifting the name of God through many different ways. He is sharing with us his daily routine of praise for God. We are invited into his life and we are given an example on how we can connect with God as well. Are there times during the day that you can put aside to give glory to God? Are there ways that you can show your praise to God through the playing of an instrument or the singing of a song? I know that may seem a little awkward but is there a way that you can find to connect with God on an intimate level. It is vital that we find that connection and for so many music is one way that we can connect with God. And trust me, I know that music is not the only way. For some it is the ability to dance or to do artwork. For others it is truly sitting in silence as they pause and wait to hear the voice of God speak. The main goal of today is to find that way for you to connect and give God glory.

One of the greatest ways to find peace is to find that connection with God in our lives. Music is one way to allow our souls to find that connection with God. I just want you to think what music really speaks to you and what is the music actually saying? Is it a way that allows you to glorify God or is it a way that allows the world to enter into you life? We have to continue to fortify our walls and protect our steps as we take on this journey every day. Setting the tone from the beginning helps us to focus our hearts and minds on God. By taking the time to intimately connect with God we will be able to draw strength for all the tasks that we may face. By intimately talking with God, we will begin to find ways to find peace and draw

strength in our understanding of just how much God is able to use us to change the world. We are able to contact with the other side of the world in a millisecond. I know that may be hard to fathom, but are we ready to help connect others on the other side of the world into this intimate relationship with God. Just remember that we cannot lead others to a place that we have not fully experienced ourselves. God's words are music to my soul. His word continues to help me find solace in the days that are filled with stress. I am grateful to lift up His name in praise and shout for joy to tell the world just how humbled I am to be a follower of Christ. I pray that my every word will be music to God's ears as I continue to tell the world my story of God's impact in my life.
