We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? Hebrews 2:1-3

How much do we really miss the things that are right in front of our faces? Have you ever just been looking for something and it has been in plain view and you cannot see it until someone else points it out to you. Then you are like how in the world did I miss that, it was right there. I think that for many of us, we live our lives with blinders on. I think that we see what we want to see and try to push out the things that we really don't want to see. I have said that a lot over my life, but the older I get the more I realize that those words are more true today. It blows my mind. I mean there are things that are right in front of our faces that we just choose not to see. We pray that if we don't see it then it cannot possibly be happening. We call this spiritual blindness and it amazes me just how much it can truly harm our lives in ways that we cannot even fathom.

Jesus was one that was very persistent in trying to help others to see things that were right in front of them. I mean, almost on a daily basis, Jesus would show the disciples something that was so simple and use it as a teachable moment that they never would have even seen it if Jesus had not taken the time to pause. I mean look at the examples of the feeding of the 5,000, the fig tree, the healing of the bleeding woman, the children coming to Jesus, the story of the sower, the sermon on the mount, the Last Supper... I could go on and on and on.

See the best thing about the teaching style of Jesus was that He was able to take the life lessons that surrounded them and bring them to life. He was able to take them out of the blind spot and give it a way to be seen that blew their minds. And I think that God is still doing the same thing today. I think that there have been very subtle hints through the years and now some that are a lot more obvious that God is saying WAKE UP!! CHURCH WAKE UP!! I am not saying that the methods have been the best, but in reality I believe that God has been trying to show us these lessons of injustice and hypocrisy and finally God said, OK, I am going to get a little louder and be a lot more obvious.

I mean let's just look at a little example of the things that we may still be missing because we are unwilling to let go of the things that we hold on to instead of drawing closer to God. First, the Pandemic. I know that you are going to say, Yes Jason, we recognize that this was a call for us to open our eyes and pay attention. Ok... If you are saying that then what have you learned. I mean God pretty much put a complete pause on the WORLD... not just our country, our state or our city... but literally our WORLD and tried to tell us that we are missing a really big part of how we need to be living our lives. We need to slow down. We need to get back to family and stop allowing our schedules to run our lives. We have become such a chaotic society and what really did most of us learn from this? We learned that we don't know how to be a family any more and actually have a desire to spend time together just being in conversation. We learned that we have gotten so far out of whack that God had to step in and speak with a loud voice. Second example I see is the total chaos and the power of evil that is evident in so many parts of our society. From the senseless deaths to the to corruption of news, politics and society in general. We are living in fear of what to say and what not to say. We have allowed a country that was built on freedom and religious foundations to end up shaking its' head and feel as though we are completely lost. How far do we have to fall before we realize that we have not been paying attention to the signs? We have been more worried about our personal gain than the growing the Kingdom of God.

The Author of Hebrews really does help us to see that in some of the earliest parts of their writing. The writer states, "We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him." I mean in reality the warning is pretty clear. We have to wake up and pay attention to the reality of the Gospel. Many people have asked me if I think the happenings of today are related to the end times prophesied

throughout the Bible. I simple tell them every thing is related to the end times as told throughout the Bible. Since the time in which evil entered into the world through the fall of mankind, the truth of the Gospel started to be revealed. I am sure that there are many people who believed that the World Wars, Civil War, plagues, massive deaths, racial wars around the world all seemed as though they were signs of the end times. And my answer is YES... I believe that every step that evil takes in this world is one more step that causes this world to drift away from our foundational teachings of Jesus. I believe that the whole goal is to get us to stop believing in God and continue to believe only in the things of this world. The more evil continues to rise and the less we as Christians fail to continue the fight, the more the world will drift away from God and rely more on self. We saw this happen only one time before with Noah and the Flood in the Book of Genesis. As I have said before, how high does the water have to rise before we open our eyes and pay attention to the fact that we are drowning in sin? WAKE UP... PAY ATTENTION or don't be surprised by God's sign becoming more prevalent to a blind generation.
