Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:1-2

So my mind is going in so many directions today when I read this scripture. I just want you to know that this is one of my POWER scriptures. A power scripture is one that every time you read it you draw POWER from the WORD of GOD, but it completely shows you a different piece of it every time you read it. So I have to be honest... I had a brain day yesterday. What is a brain day you ask... Well, to be honest I have been going non-stop pretty much since the craziness of this pandemic and it was a day that my brain needed to just veg out for a few hours. So those of you at Bible study last night... I'm sorry, you had the result of my brain rebooting and thus why we were a little all over the place last night as my mind began to replace all of the pieces I had to shut down that day. And you know what... it's ok. It's ok to have one of those days where you just have to step back and power down and reboot. But now that I have digressed, let's get back to the reason we are here today.

I remember growing up and it seemed like times were a little more on the simple side. I know that it is hard to believe, but at 12:00am, the entire television world shut off until 6am the next morning. I remember always watching a replay of Jackie Gleason and the Honey Mooners and following the show, the star spangled banner would play with the American flag waving and following that this weird barred graph would come on the screen with this

annoying high pitched sound. I knew it was time to shut down. That weird noise and picture was what they called a test pattern. As you see it in the image, it was the time they had determined that for the best use of our brains, we should shut it down for 6 hours minimally and have no mental stimulus on television. Which honestly, I believe that we should go back to in order for people's brains to reboot for the work it has to endure for the next day. One of the questions I do want to ask God is why do we only use a certain portion of our brains and why are we not able to reach the full potential? But I know there is a reason. I know that God knows what is going on and has a perfect plan and the brain has an amazing power to do what the brain needs to do without us thinking about it at all. I mean honestly, when is the last time you stayed up all night just thinking about the fact that our cells, nervous system, heart, lungs, etc... continue to function on autopilot because we are not focused on telling them to do their job every day.

That's the power of the brain. It continues to run everything and all we do is get up and exist each day. But see God also realized that with the right/wrong direction, the brain could be our greatest ally or our worst enemy. See, in reality we are truly absorbing everything that we see, feel, hear and touch at a rapid pace. Our brain is like at 500 TB hard drive and even though we don't realize it, it is taking in everything we do at one time and sorting it into different categories. Things we need to live... things we need to forget... things we need to celebrate... etc... So even when you don't realize it, the power of the brain is working overtime and sometimes needs to be rebooted and washed out just like any other part of our body. How do we do this you may ask.... through times of prayer, mediation and peace. WAIT... Where in the world do we even have the time or place to be able to pray, meditate and find peace. Well, you see that is the battle that is going on for your mind. When we talk about spiritual warfare, please understand that it's not just your physical body or your heart that is a risk... the major player in the game is your brain. It is the central control system that passes everything down into the rest of the body. That is why today's scripture is so important to dig into and to realize the BATTLE that is going on is to win the POWER OF THE MIND.

I know that I am dating myself today with some of the examples, but growing up they would always have these PSA announcements about drugs and smoking and just making poor decisions. At the end of each of them the catch phrase would come, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." And believe me that is true. As Paul is speaking to us today, I fully believe that his words are speaking into our TODAY. We are to offer our bodies as spiritual sacrifices.. HOLY and PLEASING to God... this is our spiritual act of worship. In other words, we have to find a way to get to the central power plant, do a reboot and stop allowing the

circumstances of our current situation to weigh us down and cause our brains to begin to melt. Even though I know that it is not easy because we are fighting in a spiritual war, but I love the second part of the scripture, "Do NOT CONFORM to the patterns of this world, BUT be TRANSFORMED by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND... OUR BRAINS... OUR CENTRAL POWER STATION that controls everything that we say or do. See God knows the battle eventually goes to the heart, but it is completely orchestrated by the BRAIN. The Brain has the POWER to help us to overcome any circumstance... it just depends on how we approach the situation. We need to continue to dig into the WORD now more than ever and to truly pass it on to those we are in closet contact with EVERY DAY. Don't wait for someone else to create a bible study or to think someone else needs to lead... no that is SATAN talking and saying that you have not got the skill set to study, meditate, pray and find peace. You have the MOST POWERFUL map in the universe, GOD's WORD... just open it up and start walking. I know it may seem scary , but RENEW YOUR MIND. Stop thinking that you have to wait on someone else to come up with the next best Bible Study... Maybe... just maybe that next person is YOU!

So, closing out today I just want to remind you that God gave each of us the cognitive ability to read and discern HIS WORD. It will enlighten each of us in a different way, but will continue to lead us to the same final destination. STOP CONFORMING... There is no reason for us to live our lives in a test pattern, but to stop.... reboot and begin allowing the Holy Spirit to step into our lives and renew our minds to the way God intended it to be from the beginning of creation. We have the POWER inside each and every one of us, but some of us have to reboot our brains and allow God to TRANSFORM our thoughts so that the POWER STATION can once again direct the body in worship. It's time we stop allowing the world to direct our path and get back on the journey that leads us to eternity. The MIND is a terrible thing to waste... so get up.. and let's get back to what we have been called to do.. WORSHIP in ACTION.
