RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR FACE
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:3-4
Have you ever asked yourself if you have everything that you need to do something? I know that I am one that makes lists every day, and it seems that there are times that I never have anything that I need and times when everything is at my fingertips. I find myself trying to do anything that I can to make things work because I really hate to go to the store. I really do...for a lot of reasons. One being that it seems to take up the time that I need to be doing the task at hand...even though I know I don't have all of the tools and materials that I need to do what I need to do. Has anyone else felt that way? I am just wondering. You are ready to cook, ready to clean or reorganize and you find yourself needing something that you don't have and there is a point where you have to make a decision to push through and get what you need or just give up. Many times I know people that will just shift or put the job down the list in hopes getting back to it. And then weeks later the job is still not done.
I open with this today because there are so many times that I hear people say that they feel as though they are not equipped to step into sharing the Gospel to others in this world. For many when it comes to sharing the Gospel, we always say that we need more guidance more tools more practice, and just like the projects that need that one thing and never get finished, we continue to pus it by the wayside and never finish what we started. Please hear me, I say all of this not to point fingers at anyone, but to encourage to recognize that God
has definitely given us everything that we need to be ready to pray, preach, teach, disciple, and serve. There is nothing more than we need but the Word of God as our guide and the courage to step out in faith with God by our side. YES... I know that you are saying that you are not ready for that and I get it. BUT... do you honestly believe that the disciples were ready when Jesus called them to come and follow Him. And I am not saying that lightly. I fully believe that when we step out on faith, God will equip us, encourage us and help us in those times when we are called to share the Gospel to family, friends or strangers. There is something to be said about the power of God that continues to encourage us to reach the unreachable. I mean the writing is on the wall that we need more Jesus in this world and the opportunities are right in front of our faces. We just have to stop acting as if we don't see the reality in front of us and take the leap to follow God's direction.
As we step into the Book of 2 Peter, we now realize that Nero has been persecuting the CHURCH for 2-3 years now. The people are feeling tired and warn out trying to keep the Gospel fire going. They are continuing to question their abilities to be capable of continuing the good fight. Does that sound familiar? Are there times over your life that you have questioned whether or not you can continue down this road because you are just not sure that God has given you what you need to finish this stage of the journey? My simple answer to you is YES HE HAS. God has given us everything that we need to be able to profess the Gospel in its simplest forms. You don't have to have a seminary degree to share with someone John 3:16-17. You don't have to be the best speaker to preach a sermon or the "best" prayer to speak to God. NO all you have to do is have a willing spirit and a heart filled with humility to go wherever God is calling you to go. And hear me today too. I am not saying that God is calling you to physically go to the other end of the world, but if He was, I promise you that He would equip you and prepare you for the journey. What I am saying is that God needs us everywhere we are, and the CHURCH that was under fire during the time Peter wrote his letter, needed to be encouraged and reassured that God is enough. I promise you that anyone that has been to VBS, Sunday school or in worship has been trained more over the last 3 years than some of the pastors leading churches in caves because of persecution have had their entire lives. It is not the education but the heart of the servant that allows us the opportunity for God to fill in the gaps.
Leaders were all questioning Peter on how they were going to press on and Peter responded pretty clear, "His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." We are able to take hold of the Power of God and through our knowledge we have the right to participate in the divine nature of God. In other words, we have heard the Gospel and accept it into our hearts. Because we believe in the promises of God seen
through the life of Christ, we have no reason to say that we are incapable of sharing the Gospel. We really don't. What we have here is a failure to communicate. See communication is only accomplished when we hear a message through the noise, receive it and then pass it on to others. Our failure of communication comes when we only care about receiving the message. We just want it for ourselves and that is not what we are called to do in this life. We have been given a challenge to "GO! Make disciples and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I AM with you always, to the very end of the age", Matthew 28:18. So I just want to encourage you today to recognize that you don't have to shrug your shoulders and say I don't know what to do, but to earnestly ask God to lead you in discernment on how you can help be a part of the solution. There is nothing more than we need than what God has already provided and a willingness to serve.
