6 One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job?There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” 9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

I would like to say that last night was a moment I was hoping God was going to provide clarity and an opportunity for everyone to find hope for the upcoming election, but for most of us we were probably left with anxiety and more questions after the first presidential debate. Please know that this is not going to be a political rant today. What I hope we were all able to see is the reality of the spiritual warfare going on all around us. Today, I am asking that we take a moment and literally get on our knees and begin to pray for the direction of our country in the days ahead. The Great Debate is a part of one of my favorite stories in the Bible and I felt as though today would be a good opportunity to provide background to let us know that God is in control. The Great Debate is between God and satan over the ability of Job, a righteous servant of God, would, when inflicted by loss, pain and suffering, turn his heart away from God. Job's story is one of the pinnacle moments between God vs evil and I just wanted us to see how it relates to our situation today and the ability that we have as Christians, in the midst of the battle, to remain strong in our relationship with God.

So the real reality is that we are also standing on the battlefield of the Great Debate. We are waking up today and reading news stories and creating our own narrative to how the event went last night. But in the bigger scope of life, I began to reflect on the truth that was being revealed. Satan is trying to do everything possible to destroy my home. Satan is doing everything possible in 2020 to test us and see how we will react to the situation that has been placed in front of us, and for many we are failing miserably. We are watching as we are taking sides and forgetting to truly get on our knees and ask God how we can be a part of the solution and not the problem. The more satan continues to tear away at our spiritual

foundations, continues to prove that we need to fortify our lives with God's Word more now than ever before. The world is truly watching how we react to all these situations that have arisen to tear our country apart in 2020. Growing up I have always thought that the United States was the standard for Christian morality, but the battles that have arisen over the years have caused us to truly fall apart a the seams. As we have talked about before, spiritual warfare is real and it allows evil to continue to exist in every area of God's creation. We continue to allow small things that we think will not effect us, crack the moral foundations of our lives... we MUST continue to hold strong to our faith in God and allow our testimony to lead others out of these darkened days.

So getting to our verse for today, we are able to see how the Great Debate started. It was truly between God and evil (satan). We must reference that in this meeting between God and satan, satan continues to yield to the authority of God. Satan has no power until God provides the opportunity for Job to be tested. Satan's true goal was to do everything in his power to deter Job's heart from God and believing that he could do that in Job, challenged God to test his servant. So pause just a second and realize that God never left Job. God was not playing with Job's life, but the true reality is that the Great Debate is fashioned around how we will react when these difficulties in life arise. God gave the right for satan to take away everything of the world and not to touch Job physically. Later we know that the debate continues and satan inflicts physical pains on Job, but once again Job never yields, even with the influence of his wife and friends to encourage him to curse God and die. The methods used by satan were ones geared toward satan driving a wedge between Job and God by getting Job to believe that God's governing of the world was not just and good. Satan attacked his family, health and possessions, but was not allowed to effect his heart, mind or soul. The battle was great but God knew that the power of Job's faith would reign supreme. God never left his side and Job never left his faith in God. Even though there were many times he cried out and questioned God on the suffering that he was experiencing, Job's faith continued to remain in God and that was the victory of the debate.

I say all of this to say that we too are now in a situation of testing our faith. For some they have lost a lot: family, jobs, friends, health, and possessions. For others, we are continuing to question how we are able to continue to function when we have no idea what will happen in the days ahead. Simply, I tell you that we must continue to turn to Jesus and connect with each other through prayer and fasting. We need to realize that the world is still looking to the Church in how we are going to respond to these battles that are before us. People are searching for hope and we are the ones that need to be carrying the Light of Hope into the world instead of waiting to see what is going to happen next. The Great Debate for this generation is truly about how the CHURCH, not the building but the people of God, is going to respond to the circumstances that we are facing. How are we going to continue to share the faith that is within us if we never have the chance to physically meet at a location again. Are we capable of showing others how to follow Jesus or are we solely reliant on others to

do so? In the end of the story, because of his unshakable faith, Job was able to be fully restored in all things. It did not mean that he did not suffer and that he questioned his own life, but it meant that regardless of the circumstance God was his FIRM FOUNDATION.. There was no question.. there was NO DEBATE. Job was never going to leave his faith in God and he allowed God to continue to rule over EVERY area of his life. I am asking the same of all of us today. I am asking that every student, young adult, parent or stranger that reads these words today to begin a time of prayer and fasting until November 3rd for God to surround our country and provide opportunities for us to spread the Gospel like we have never done before. I pray that we allow God's Word to go VIRAL, what a concept, because scripture tells us that God's Word will not return void. I pray that we will have open minds and hearts that have been closed for so long and realize that the only way that all of this craziness and hatred and confusion to be resolved is through the power of the name of Jesus. The final part of the Great Debate is this... Will we actually do our part or will we continue to sit back and wait for other people to take our place? Please watch or listen to the song below... we will FEAR NO MORE... The GREAT DEBATE has been settled in my life and I will truly live each day to show the world the POWER of the LOVE of God!
