THE MUSIC OF OUR HEARTS
1 My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul. 2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. Psalm 108:1-3
As we begin a new week, we are still going through the journey of the Psalm and we are able to see the importance of beginning our days with giving God glory. We continue to experience this connection of our hearts to God. Our hearts give us the passion that drives everything that we do. If we show passion towards animals, then our hearts will show warmth towards animals. If we have a passion for music, then our hearts will be drawn to the sounds of any music as it connects to our ears. If we show passion towards people, then our hearts will continue to fight for those who are disenfranchised and in need of connection. Our hearts sing a song that draws us to the passions that God has placed inside of us. So that is why it is so important for us to listen to the music of our hearts. God has placed within each of us this passion and desire to connect with God in so many different ways. For some of us it is in art, others it may be sports. For some of us we are willing to go and fight the battles that others are unwilling to fight. We are drawn by the spirit that God has placed within our hearts to change the world.
So what is the music of your heart? I can tell you that the music in my heart is people. I love being able to find a way to connect with people in any way possible. God has allowed me to have such talents as music, sports, knowledge and the ability to speak. So, throughout my life, God has developed within my heart a passion to connect people to God. I know that may seem a little out of the norm, but that is my heart music. I love watching as the light bulb turns on and people begin to build a relationship with God. I have been called by God
to help others find a way to connect their hearts with God's. Trust me that is not an easy job and trust, I have met some very interesting people along the way, but the one thing they all have in common is God. Inside, God has placed a piece of himself and is desiring to reconnect with His creation. We cannot realize the strength of God's desire to truly connect with us because we live our lives in such a way that we can never stop long enough to feel God's draw. We are trying to find any way to succeed in this world. But what we really need to do is stop and listen. Our hearts can help direct our path and lead to a place where we can find peace and joy.
As David continues to live out every day of his life, we are able to catch a glimpse of his heart. David loves to express his love for God through the power of music. He constantly is speaking of using instruments to give glory to God. David, remember, started out as a shepherd and there were many days that he had alone in the fields protecting the sheep. David was drawn by his heart music to give glory to God. In every part of his attitude, we watch and see ho whe continues to seek ways to connect with God on a deeper level. Even in the times that he is hiding for his life, he still reaches out to God. So today that is what I am asking of each of us. I want all of us to truly find our heart music. I want us to search down deep in our souls and see what gives us the greatest joy. If it is teaching, singing, praying, working with kids, painting, whatever it may be and begin to find ways to give glory back to God. None of us are the same. God gifted each of us in such a way that we can help to reach ALL the people of the world. In doing so we find the true joy in these gifts from God. Our hearts become strangely warmed, and we are able to be filled to overflowing with the love of God. This is the joy that we continue to talk about when Jesus said make my joy complete. It is the ability to find the music and passion in our hearts and connect it with our calling from God.
I am praying that we are able to experience something that is fresh and new not only today but every day of our lives. I pray that we are able to step back and listen to our hearts as we are drawn closer and closer to God. I pray that we are able to reflect and realize that if we are doing things that are not our passion, we can see that clearly and step away with joy. So many times we find ourselves hearts playing the wrong music because we are trying to fit into the world's mold. God created us all with a unique passion and a song that will guide us through any situation. I just pray that each of us today are able to really search our hearts and
souls to find it. I pray that we are living a life filled with joy and not just punching a time clock to make it through the day. The heart can be tainted by the world, but deep inside each of us God has placed a passion that is filled with complete joy. Once each of us finds that song, we will be completely unstoppable. If there was ever a time that this world needed a heart change it is now. We cannot continue to sit back and think someone else is going to change the world. NO!! It is our time to hold fast to our hearts and continue to speak truth to the world. That is the only way that things are going to be able to change. When the people of God finally start acting like the people called to transform the world. If not, then all we will be is a broken instrument waiting to once again be given a purpose in this world. May the music of our hearts give us strength to overcome the deafness of this world.
