9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, “Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but ‘in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.’[a]”10 I took the little scroll from the angel’s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. Revelation 10:9-10

When I was in the 9th grade it was the first time that Advil was introduced in mass production. I remember sitting in Mrs. Mobley's Geography class and I asked someone for some medicine for a headache. It basically looked like a regular M&M and the only way that I could take medicine as a child was to chew it up. Needless to say the candy coating tasted great until I chomped it up. There was a burning sensation in my mouth that I could not get rid of. I had no water and the teacher was not going to allow me to go get water from the water fountain. So I sat in her class until the bell rang, miserable and realizing the power of the medicine I had just taken. I say all of that because today we are going to talk about the Power of God's Word. I know that in this journey we have had the chance to really get honest but today I am going to lay down some truth when it comes to God's Word, and just like the feeling I had in Mrs. Mobley's 9th grade Geography class, there is NOTHING that will be able to clinch the pain from the power of the Gospel

First and foremost, I need us all to recognize that God's Word is ultimate truth. We have to see that God's Word is the cure that this world is in desperate need of right now. And please understand that God's Word is not this nice and easy go lucky book. No! It is filled with truth that is so powerful that it cost people their lives. It is filled with so much truth that generations of people ended up dying because they were unwilling to submit to the authority of the Gospel. It has some pretty real messages that we don't want to talk about because it will literally call us all to the carpet and we don't want to face the truth or reality of how we are truly living our lives for God. I know that seems harsh, but it is truth. And please

understand that I am not saying that I know everything and I am not saying that this truth does not hit me right between the eyes as well. Because it does. The Word of God is the medicine that we need today. This world is truly missing the TRUTH and that is why we are so caught in chaos and confusion. We, the Church, have done like the makers of Advil. We have candy coated the Gospel in such a way as to protect the people from the POWER of the medicine. Some times the Word of God is not meant to be swallowed easy. Some times it is meant to hit us where it hurts the most because we are living in a fantasy world where we don't believe that there are any consequences to our actions. We just want the Bible to help us through the hurt without feeling any of the pain that we have caused. We want the solution without ever working through the problem. God's Word is a seen as a double-edged sword that can cut through cartilage like a hot knife through butter. It can go to the core of our hearts and destroy the sin that has corrupted our souls. God's Word is a guide and is meant to cause healing, but it does not mean that we will not suffer some through the process.

As God is revealing the end time prophecies to John on Patmos, we are able to see the truth in full force. As we read yesterday, God's Word can be sweet to the taste when we consume His Word, but when it comes to fighting the evil that is in our "stomach" or souls, it is going to turn sour and burn. Just like that Advil I mentioned, John is hearing God say that there needs to be some pruning, purging and cleansing from the inside out. And as we consume the remedy, we have to be prepared for the pain that is to follow as we are being healed from the inside out. John is watching all of this unfold and realizes the false sense of security that we have given to ourselves. We think that as long as we are not as sick as someone else we will be ok. But the sin and evil that is inside us begins to multiply and take over every cell of our being and what is produces is a manifestation of what we did not rip out in the first place. And we wonder why it hurts so much to be healed by God. We wonder why it may take years to correct the decisions that we have made, and the reality is that it will take twice as long to fix what we have broken. God's Word is PURE TRUTH. It is INFALLIBLE because it is directly given to us from a perfect God. Now listen, I am not going to argue with you that there are syntax or written errors because it was transcribed multiple times by fallible people. What I am saying is the original Advil is still Advil. Yes, there are knock off brands of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen. Yes, there is a Walmart brand and the real brand... What I am saying is that even though they may have a little different name and a little different packaging, the medication is still the same and is created to do the same job. Yes, I know that there are many different versions of God's Word, NIV, KJV, NKJV, NASV, NRSV, etc.., but the TRUTH is still the same Yesterday, Today and Forever and regardless if it is in paperback, hardback or leather, it is just as powerful and contains just as much TRUTH as when God first spoke the WORD into life.

So as we are getting closer and closer to the end of this Lenten journey, my question for us all today is this.... Are we taking our medicine?. Are we allowing the Word of God to cut through our mess and penetrate our hearts in such a way that we are truly going to be healed. It means that we have to admit to the mistakes that we have made and realize that the only way to truly heal is to break through the candy coating and accept the medicine we

don't want to take. Yes, it is going to be sour and burn a little in our bodies, but it is because for true healing to occur, there has to be an uprooting of the evil. There has to be a transformation and you cannot be transformed without tearing down the walls and gutting

out the pieces that have been destroyed. God's Word is not something that we are asked to read occasionally. It is the DAILY BREAD that our soul desires and our hearts crave so that we can live our life in the fullness of God's righteousness. I don't know when we are finally going to admit as Christians and the Church that we have been given some type of a placebo Gospel. We are afraid of telling the full truth because of the ramifications that may occur by the pockets in the seats. And yes I did say that... because I really want us all to see what God is saying in His Word today. I would rather step on toes and share the true offensive, grace filled nature of God's Word now, then having to answer to God why I held back and allowed so many to have the false security in their lives and wind up in an eternity separated from God. The time has come for ALL of us to take the medicine and allow it to heal us from the inside out. There is no more time to wait. Who's ready to step up and take the MEDICINE God, the Healer, is offering? Yes, it is going to burn, but I would rather it burn for a little than for an eternity. Father, here I am. What can I do for You today? Amen.
