TO WALK ON THE LEVEL GROUND OF GOD
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life. 9 Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you.10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143:8-10
It is really difficult to walk some days. I know that many of us have experienced the difficulty from time to time to walk on different terrains and watch as we lose our balance or find ourselves on unlevel ground. We watch as our steps get more shallow and our hearts begin to beat a lot faster because of the uncertainty of what the next steps may bring. And then I have watched as people has seen everything that is in front of them so clearly and they just take off without a doubt or a concern that the next step would cause them any pain or casualty in life. They have seen the end of the road and they are running as fast as they can to get to their destination. The same can be said for our spiritual journeys as well. There are days that we feel confident in the direction that God is leading us and we put our eyes on Him and run the race that has been placed before us. Then there are other days when we continue to struggle and allow doubt to sway our path because of the unlevel spiritual terrain we are walking on that we cannot see quite yet where God is leading. We must continue to plant our feet with each step and know that God is there.
Where? God is where? God is right beside us through His prevenient grace to help push us and pick us up when our steps seem shaky and uncertain. God continues to level our ground and give us the encouragement to finish the race and to fight through the battles. God is not asking us to go through this journey alone. Even in the life of Job, God was still there even if it seems that God may have been distant in times. If we were truly able to fully live out the faith and run as if nothing could contain us towards God's calling in our lives, what would
that look like. If we throw down the chains that entangle us and continue to take a leap of faith, not a step, but a leap, what would the world really look like today. Would there still be evil in the world... yes, but we would no longer be fearful or question the path that God is leading us on because we would be able to step with full assurance that God was in control of the situation. It does not mean that we will not still stumble or suffer pain, but it means that we have starting living into the faith that can move mountains and trust the ONE who is in control of ALL things in both heaven and earth.
The Psalm that we read today is just another reminder that each and every day David was telling us of the pattern of his personal trust in God.Every morning we wake up, we should instantly be reminded of the trust we place in God's hands of our lives in which HE gives us another chance to change the world. Yes, we are searching for the reassurance that the decisions we make and the direction we are going is the direction God is leading, but the real reality is sometimes we cannot see that until we reach the destination. I know that we are all looking for burning bushes or big fish to help lead us in the path of God's righteousness, but the truth is that God entrusts our lives into our hands. He has given us the roadmap and asks us to fully apply it in our lives. God has equipped us for the journey, but sometimes we just choose not to take the equipment along because it may be too cumbersome until we are about to step out into uncertainty. David really help to reach our hearts with this Psalm today. It is one that continues to encourage us to step out on faith and know that God is still teaching us every day to trust in HIM. Even when we cannot see two steps in front of our faces, we know that God is still stretching our faith and helping us to navigate the tough terrain until we reach the level ground. It is a journey that for ALL of us will take a life-time, but it is a journey that is filled with grace, love and mercy.
So the true question is in our ability to TRUST GOD with the journey. See for many of us we look through our own eyes and only see the ground for what the world has created it to be. We see the potential pitfalls and the mountains, but if God is in the picture, those difficult terrains become level ground. God prepares the pathway and helps us to draw strength. Even in the times of uncertain steps to move forward, God gives us the peace that passes all understanding and just like Peter we can walk on the water if we are willing to fully trust God and, keep our eyes on Him and step out of our boat of security or maybe it is a boat of insecurity. Maybe it is not until we truly step out on the unlevel terrain and fully rely on God that we can actually come to the place where the ground beneath our feet is level. God has
an amazing way to help us walk in this life, the only thing that God is waiting for is us to trust HIM with the fullness of the journey. I don't mean just the end, but the entirety of the trip. God wants us to unlock the gates and let Him open the door of opportunities that we cannot even fathom until we let go and let God. We continue to lock up the potential that God has to use us to help others find the level ground that God has in store for them as well. Are you truly ready to step into a life that is filled with JOY and EXCITEMENT? Are you ready to be stretched beyond your wildest dreams? If so finish your prayer time today with these words, "Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground." And let's watch together how your able to run even more with the assurance of God in every step.
