28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said. Matthew 14:28-29

Have you ever been so in sync with a person that you could finish their sentences? Or maybe you were able to just look at each other and know exactly what the other person is saying. I know that may sound crazy, but there are people that I have been so close with that we literally were able to be in sync. If you are not knowledgeable about that phrase, let me tell you a little about what that actually means. It means that you are in complete synchronization with another person. It could mean that you walk with the same gait... or maybe you are able to sing the same notes or honestly you are able to finish the other person's sentences. It really does blow me away to think about all of the things that some people are capable of doing when they are on the same page with each other. I know that we are getting ready for the olympics and one of the events that completely blows me away is synchronized swimming. I just don't have any idea on how they train or how they are able to hold their breath while upside down and their legs and body motions are perfectly in sync. Some people may say that synchronized swimming should not be an olympic sport, but I say that it truly is one of the hardest ones I have ever seen.

As we look at our lives today, has there ever been a time where you felt that you were completely in sync with God? I am asking if you have ever had a time where you felt so close to God that you knew exactly what the next steps of your spiritual journey should be and there was a complete peace in your heart. There are so many people who are trying to do

their best to figure out how that is even possible. How can it be that someone is so in sync with God that they know the decisions that they should make next. I can tell you that it does not happen over night. I can also tell you that it takes a lot of time and effort on our part if we really want to discern that steps that God is asking for us to take. Just like the synchronized swimmers, they cannot just jump in a pool and immediately know what they are going to do. They have to practice constantly, both in the pool and out of the pool. They have to be willing to get on the same wavelength with each other and anticipate the next move before it happens. It is when we are honestly able to spend time with each other and willing to take the time to get to know each others mannerisms and quirks is when we truly can begin to be in sync. Similarly with God, if we honestly want to be able to see the path that God is preparing before us, we have to spend time in prayer and conversation with God. We have to see and witness how God works and when we have become accustomed to God's actions, we can find ourselves thinking less like us and more like God.

As we look at out Scripture for today, we are able to witness Peter having an opportunity to have an amazing connection with God. Remember that the Jesus had just fed the 5,000 plus people and following this miracle the disciples are rushed into a boat. They have been able to see Jesus completely blow their minds and immediately God is taking them to a place where their faith will once again be tested. Jesus had gone to pray and saw that the boat had drifted a good ways off of the shore. The holiness of God was shining through Jesus and the disciples were completely afraid and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Jesus, immediately tells them to take courage, but many of them continued to shake in fear.... but not Peter. Later we will see that Jesus speaks that on the rock, Petra, I will build my Church. Why was Peter so important... because Peter in all of his poor discernment, still continued to live out a faith that connected intimately with Jesus. Immediately Peter replies with our verses for today. God if it is you just tell me to come and I'll join you in the water. Peter was intensely looking at Jesus and never even questioned it when Jesus responded for him to "COME". At that one moment, Peter was so in tune with Jesus that he NEVER even hesitated. He immediately took a step out of the boat and began walking towards Him. Some say that Peter was not walking in faith but doubt and needed proof that it was Jesus. But for me, I really do believe that Peter was so in-sync with Jesus that he would do ANYTHING Jesus asked. It was not until Peter broke eye contact and looked away that he began to sink and cry out for help.

Today, I just want to you know that we can do the same thing in our lives. Our waves may not be physical water, but may be the stressors of this life that continues to cause us to cry out to God in desperation. I fully believe Jesus when He said that we only need the faith of a mustard seed to move mountains. I believe that we can live our lives in such a way that we can hear His voice and see His plan. I believe that miracles and spiritual gifts still exist. We continue to hear stories of people who have received so many blessings from their life and

the one connection that is common is their strong faith and synchronization with God. I am not saying that God is going to give us insider information for the winning lottery numbers and I am not saying that God is going to choose one person over another. What I am saying is that when we humble who we are and allow God to take control of our lives, we will hear His voice and see His power being revealed all around us. When we choose to live our lives for ourselves, we cannot be surprised that God seems distant and out of sync. Remember... God never moved away from us, but continues to desire a relationship with us. It is us that have chosen to break that relationship, and when we are not "in relationship" with God, it is impossible to truly discern His plans. We begin to guess and sink into the water of this world and find ourselves on the verge or drowning. So today, I pray that we will continue to see God's plan more fully. I pray that we will have a desire to want to be more in sync with God's plan for our lives and for the world. God needs more people who are willing to step out of the boat and walk in faith. Do you truly desire to know God's plan? If so, it's time that we all spent a little more time listening and praying so that when He reveals it... we know it's from God.
